*** This is the 6th year in succession that the liquid pig manure has been spread in December/January time frame. December 2005 spraying is particularly callous because of 15 days of below zero temperature resulting in frozen ground. The spreading was done immediately before forecast snow storms which produced more than 25 cm of snow, effectively covering the manure.

Note: Cressy Swamp is located on the southern portion of these fields and the land drains directly into the swamp which flows directly into Lake Ontario.

** From August to December several tankers of manure were removed each week.
This operation supposedly has a Nutrient Management Plan.
Spreading in April/May for spring planting, and September/October for fall planting is consistent with Nutrient Management.  Other dates suggest Manure Disposal is the only reason to spread.  The recommended minimum acreage in the Nutrient Management By-Laws is insufficient for any ILO to properly utilize hog sewage as a crop fertilizer.
