Belleville Intelligencer - Tuesday, March 5, 2002

A 40-year old Picton man has been charged in the wake of a Feb. 24 accident in which a tractor-trailer carrying a load of 200 pigs flipped just south of the Norris Whitney bridge.

Both lanes of Bay Bridge Road were shut down by police for more than 5 hours after the rig flipped around 5 pm injuring and killing dozens of animals.

Officers on the scene were forced to put many of the animals down because of injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver, who sustained non life threatening injuries, was taken to Belleville Hospital for observation.

Monday, police charged Stephen Cohan 40, of Picton with careless driving and driving while suspended. Cohan is due to appear in Belleville court April 29 to face the charges.
